quick & dirty

My long-term quick fixes

Here are some 'temporary' fixes which worked for quite a while.

A-Arm blowout

d

I hit a pothole somewhat hard (happens in Massachusetts) and ripped out my upper control arm.

d

Here a close-up.

d

I had a drive up to Maine planned for the next morning, so I needed a quick fix. I found some 1" steel tubing and went to work.

d

Here is the tube mounted. I decided to counter the nut to secure it. The disadvantage is that I lost some clearance, but the screw does not hit.

d

View from below. The drive to Maine was great and I still cruise around with it. I have to overhaul the front end anyways...

REPLACED

Coolant blow-out

d

My coolant hose blew the other day, just as I was cruising on the highway next to an old Challenger. I made it off the highway and thankfully there was a hardware store nearby. Even though they did not have the exact 90 degree elbow that I needed, two feet of standard 3/4" hose did the trick. I had to give it a generous loop in order to avoid pinching it. Think pigtail.

REPLACED

Fuel line

d

My fuelline broke when I had to mount a new fuelpump somewhere on the streets of Boston. I patched it with some 1/4" hose that I had whith me.
I read that this is not recommended due to the pressure. I have a new steelline ordered.
