This & That

This & That

Along with the 'bigger' projects came a lot of small ones.

Cowl cover

d

In order to prevent leafs from falling into my (now fixed) cowl, I got some Lexan stock and fasteners from Home Depot and fabricated a cowl cover.

Gas cap

d

My gas cap showed some signs of wear, so I polished it and touched up the lettering and the logo.

d

Here the outcome.

d

I painted the letters generously (after I polished everything) and then wiped excess paint off with a paper towel. Worked like a charm. The ring is tough, you have to wipe away from the center, otherwise all the paint gets picked up.

d

The stripes were relatively easy.

Taillights

d

The gaskets on my taillights were no good anymore and the bezels shot, so I decided to work on them a bit (here you can see the original color). I bought new lenses, bezel and gaskets. The only parts I did not get were new housings.

d

Should have....

d

No way to get the housing to shine, but I figured with some aluminum foil it might work better. I made some templates to cut the pieces and glued them into place with a little bit of spray glue.

d

I wanted to know if this helps reflecting the light better, so I waited until it was dark and took this picture.
One side had a housing with the aluminum foil and the other without. The bezels are not mounted here.
If you guessed the left taillight to be modded, then the fix seems to work.
I think the result is worth the hour I spent fudging with aluminum foil.

d

Check.

Air filter

d

I was lucky enough to find an original air filter housing at my local junkyard.

d

It took a lot of sanding, but now...

d

...it looks like it should.

Moving the fuse box

d

Because of the leaking cowl, my original fusebox was a mess.

d

I decided to get a new fusebox with flat fuses and move it from underneath the dashboard to the engine compartment.

d

Here it is in front of the firewall on the passenger side. Next to the fusebox is my main power switch.
